In just about every conversation I’ve had with friends lately, at some point, the economy or the new rules of careers and business, or something like that comes up. And, everyone seems to be trying to find ways to either save money or make more money. Even friends who haven’t really seen a change in job status or taken any kind of financial hit. Overall, I’ve been lucky, but I’ve had to find ways to save. Thought I’d share some of them with you, starting tonight.
For the past several years, I’ve used a service called “MyPoints” to collect bonus points and exchange them for gift cards. I haven’t tracked exactly how much I’ve earned, but it amounts to a few hundred dollars per year in gift cards. All I have to do to earn the rewards is read marketing e-mails and then click through to view a website. No big deal, hardly any time investment. Some of my friends have tried it … some hate it, because they think the e-mails just add to their already full in-boxes. and it does take time for the points to accrue … some love it, because it’s like free money. You earn even more points if you actually use the program while you’re doing your shopping online. Really comes in handy during the Christmas season.
I recommend it, but I also recommend creating a new e-mail address just for the MyPoints e-mails. That way, your primary e-mail account won’t get bogged down with marketing e-mails. Go here to sign up. Let me know what you think.
